Ground Transport from the Airport
The Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is located about 5 km from the conference venue, the Empress Hotel Chiang Mai. Most hotels offer airport transfer services for a fee. A taxi to or from the airport will be approximately 150 baht.
Songtaew
These red pick-up trucks are the most common and cheapest form of transportation in the city. You must flag them down from the side of the road and negotiate with the driver based on your destination. The standard price is 30 baht per person, per ride, but trips to the airport can cost 40-50 baht. Songtaews often act as buses and will pick up additional passengers en route.
Tuk-tuk
These three-wheeled motorcycle taxis are available for private hire, and can be flagged down from the side of the road. You must negotiate the price of the trip with the driver based on your destination. Prices range from 80 baht upwards. Be sure to settle on a price before beginning the journey, otherwise you may end up with an expensive ride.
Taxis
Taxis can only be hired directly at the airport from taxi counters or from the taxi call center. They are the most expensive option. There is no price negotiation and the taxi company will inform you of the fee based on the distance you are traveling.
